Ramble 58: Tits, cheek bones and more; why Corinne Day is more than a 90’s photographer

DayCorinne Day was sixteen when she ran away from home to make a name for herself in the fashion world. Corinne Day was a struggling model when on an extended vacation, her boyfriend Mark Szaszy taught her the wonderful ways of photography. Corinne Day found phenomenal success and brutal criticism in her short forty eight years of adventurous life. Day’s life was a series of mishaps, misfortunes and destiny; it was just her stumbling over one bar stool after another.

But what made Corinne Day special was not the angle at which she clicked her photographs or the clothes she made those models wear or that she found Kate Moss or that she revolutionized fashion photography for decades to come. What made Corinne Day special was her innate ability to scout for the raw, the unpeeled, the virgin. On her lens she captured the tattered lips of the model, her addicted eyes, her brazen skin, her unfaltering motion, the bead of sweat on her forehead, the glimmer of hope running through her veins. She juxtaposed beauty in normalcy and that is what makes her special.

Corinne Day was not just a beautiful woman but also a brooding mind, a challenging breath of fresh air struggling to breathe in the world of cliches, trite lenses and hackneyed imagination. Corinne DayCorinne DayCorinne Day
