Ramble 109: We were always real men and women and here is why!

Real men do make women cry. But, some don’t. Some beat. Others get beaten. Some love, others leave. Some live, others die.

Some may have balls and a penis. Some don’t. But they are all real men and their job is not to make a woman not cry.

The one with the gun in his hand is a real man. The one with the bullet in his heart is a real man. The one who is the dreaded neighbourhood uncle is a real man. The one who is the beloved old man is a real man. The one who shuns God is a real man. The one who prays is a real man. The one who is bad is a real man. The one who is good is a real man.

All men have one thing in common:  that they are all real men. They come in various colors, sizes and shapes and they all have little of themselves that society has not shaped. We cannot term a bad man an “unreal” man and get away with the problems we have in our society. A label from ‘Be a man’ to a ‘Real man’ is not change enough.

The term ‘real man’ does little to change the world we live in. A ‘real man’ still gets to decide whether he should be a real man and not make his woman cry. The question we need to ask is why should we give anybody the choice to keep us happy? The strength of a confident modern woman does not lie in her ability to find a ‘real man’; it is her ability to fight the bad ones. Similarly, the strength of a confident modern man does not lie in his ability to be a ‘real man’ to his woman but to be a good man for himself.

A modern man and a modern woman do not need to be chopped and slotted into limited roles of ‘don’t make her cry’ and ‘find a guy who does not make you cry’.

A real man and woman are simply those who decide to stop escaping from themselves and a real society is one which decides to stop hiding them.
